Disability and Physical Impairments Lawyers

What is a disability? To make the answer to that question easier for people in West Virginia, the Social Security Administration has compiled a listing of disabilities. A medical condition does not have to be present on the list to be considered a disability. However, those with listed disabilities tend to find it much easier to obtain the benefits they are entitled to.

Physical Impairments That Constitute Disability

An abbreviated version of the Social Security Administration’s list of physical impairments for adults follows:

  • Musculoskeletal system impairments: These include spine disorders, joint disorders and other similar impairments.
  • Special senses and speech impairments: These include blindness, loss of speech, loss of hearing and other sensory impairments.
  • Respiratory system impairments: These include pneumoconiosis, silicosis and other lung diseases.
  • Cardiovascular system impairments: These include heart failure, heart attack, heart disease, and other heart and blood system conditions.
  • Digestive system impairments: These include gastrointestinal hemorrhaging requiring blood transfusions and other similar impairments.
  • Genitourinary impairments: These include kidney failure and other similar conditions.
  • Hematological impairments: These include anemia, sickle cell disease and other similar conditions.
  • Skin impairments: These include skin cancer, extensive skin lesions and other similar disorders.
  • Endocrine system impairments: These include pituitary gland disorders, thyroid gland disorders and other glandular disorders.
  • Neurological impairments: These include epilepsy, brain tumors, brain injuries and other similar conditions.

If you have been diagnosed with a condition that falls into any of these categories, you may be eligible for Social Security benefits. If your disability does not fall neatly into one of these categories, but it prevents you from working, you still may be entitled to benefits. In either case, the representation of an experienced lawyer can help you get the resources you need as soon as possible. At Bailey, Javins & Carter, L.C., our lawyers have decades of experience helping people like you get Social Security Disability benefits.

We work on a contingent fee basis. We do not get paid unless you do.
