What are the most common causes of commercial truck accidents?

Some of the most common causes of truck accidents or commercial motor vehicle accidents are, that I see, number one driver fatigue, driver error due to be in fatigued, that these motor carriers and drivers are paid by the deliveries that they make and they try to get to the sites, the delivery locations, as quick as possible and there are certain requirements that they can only drive for so long, for such an amount of time during the course of the day. And, when you look at their driver logs they may have been out on the road for 13 hours in a 24 hour period which is not allowed under the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Another leading cause of commercial accidents that we see here Bailey Javins & Carter is poorly maintained brakes or that the mechanics that are maintaining and repairing the brakes for the motor carrier are not properly trained. We see lots of accidents that have occurred due to the poorly maintained automatic slack adjuster on brakes. Another cause that we see, another leading cause of trucking accidents that we see, is load securement. Whether that load is properly secured to the truck mainly in flatbed commercial vehicles. For instance a steel coil. There are specific regulations that go to how steel coil is secured to the flatbed truck and so it’s very, very important that these drivers it boils down to whether or not the commercial driver has been properly trained to perform the tasks that they’ve been hired to perform. And those are some of the leading causes of commercial trucking accidents, not only in West Virginia, but the United States. And if you’re involved in one of those whether it’s in West Virginia or any other state in the United States please give me a call here at Bailey Javins and Carter. Thank you.
